Knicks' Jalen Brunson Says He's 'Excited' After Mike Brown's Hiring as Head Coach
New York Knicks star Jalen Brunson said he’s “excited” to play under Mike Brown, who was recently hired as the team’s new head coach.
After viral videos showed Brown holding his Sacramento squad accountable and hyping up his players — including sprinting down the sideline — Brunson took notice, praising Brown’s energy and leadership.
"I think it just shows a different side of him—how animated he is and how much he wants the best for his team," Brunson said on the Roommates Show (1:08 mark). "He wants to push us in any way he can, so I’m excited. I’m excited for this, excited to see where he can take us. It should be fun."
"I never had a relationship with him, but he always said kind words. As an opposing coach, he always shook my hand, said what's up, gave me a head nod," Brunson added.
Knicks teammate Josh Hart echoed Brunson’s sentiments, expressing respect for the intensity of Brown’s leadership and the strong reputation he brings with him to New York.
"He's been a part of some great organizations and some great teams. He's extremely competitive—someone I think will work well with the personality and personnel we already have. So, it's going to be great."
Brown compiled a 195-107 record with Sacramento and was named the 2022-23 NBA Coach of the Year after leading the Kings to their first playoff appearance since the 2005-06 season.
