Browns' Shedeur Sanders Hosted Fundraiser for Victims of Cleveland Fire

Doric SamJul 17, 2025

Cleveland Browns rookie quarterback Shedeur Sanders made an admirable move to give back to his new community.

Sanders hosted a fundraising event for the residents of the Rainbow Terrace Apartments in Cleveland's Garden Valley neighborhood who were affected by a devastating fire on June 23 that displaced over 40 families, hospitalized five people and killed one man.

Per Camryn Justice of ABC's Cleveland affiliate, Sanders put together the Garden Valley Fun Fest after hearing about the tragic fire on social media.

"When everything transpired, I was out of town, so I was like, 'Nah, the first thing I do when I get back is definitely come to the community,'" Sanders said. "This is just off an Instagram DM. I didn't really know about the situation; someone told me. I was like 'Dang that's crazy,' and I just wanted a day for everybody to get out here and have some type of enjoyment, excitement, bring just the family atmosphere back."

The event included free food trucks, attractions for children like a bounce house and face painting booth, and a free haircut station. Local community vendors and organizations were also in attendance to provide additional resources to those in need.

Sanders was joined by Browns defensive end Mike Hall Jr. and Cleveland boxer Montana Love, among others. He and Hall even organized a game of pickup football with the neighborhood kids. The 23-year-old has already endeared himself to the city just months after being selected by the Browns with a fifth-round pick in the 2025 draft.

"I can tell everybody’s vibe down here is down to earth. There was a lot of people who didn’t want me to come down here and doing it, but I don’t understand why. God told me to come out here, so I'm never going to question his word," Sanders said. "Just get active and actually do it. Sending money and stuff, that's easy. But you have to actually go out there and be in the flesh. I feel like that's more impactful."
