Thunder Unveil Renderings for New $900M Arena in Photos, Videos, Set to Open in 2028
After winning the 2025 NBA championship, the Oklahoma City Thunder have continued their celebration well into the offseason.
In addition to locking up star players Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, Jalen Williams and Chet Holmgren with massive contract extensions, the Thunder provided another treat for fans on Wednesday when they revealed the renderings for their new $900 million arena that will open in 2028.
The team posted a video and a series of photos to give fans a taste of what's to come:
Thunder chairman Clay Bennett released a statement reacting to Wednesday's showcase of the conceptual design, saying the goal is to build a "unique and transformative downtown landmark."
Architect David Manica spoke to Brett McCormick of the Sports Business Journal about the hopes for the design.
"It’s transparent, authentic," Manica said. "The upper concourse shares the same space as the main concourse, so everyone is in the same space together."
He added, "It’s a really great site. Well situated in downtown, lots of elbow room, plenty of room to locate the building on the site and make sure we still had access, circulation, and public gardens."
The glass curtain wall facade that will encompass the venue is expected to be one of the most striking features of the new space.
"The city becomes a backdrop for every experience in the arena," Manica said.
The design for the Oklahoma City New Arena is expected to be finalized early next year, per McCormick. The new space will be constructed across the street from the Thunder's existing Paycom Center home.
