Dylan Harper Shut Down for Rest of NBA Summer League by Spurs After 2 Games
Dylan Harper is being shut down after playing two Summer League games for the San Antonio Spurs, the team announced on Wednesday (h/t ESPN's Tim MacMahon).
ESPN's Michael C. Wright noted that shutting Harper down for the rest of the Las Vegas circuit didn't have to do with the incoming rookie's injury status.
Harper, the No. 2 pick in the 2025 NBA draft, sat out the California Classic with a groin injury earlier this month. The Spurs described the injury as a "minor" issue, according to Tom Orsborn of the San Antonio Express-News.
Harper made his Summer League debut last weekend in Las Vegas, where he averaged 16 points, four rebounds and two assists in two games against the Dallas Mavericks and Utah Jazz.
Harper opened up his summer campaign on Saturday with a 16-point, six-rebound outing against Cooper Flagg and the Mavericks.
Harper then returned on Monday with another 16-point outing highlighted by a regulation buzzer-beater in a win over the Jazz.
He will finish his stint in the Summer League having totaled 32 points in 42 minutes on the court while shooting 9-for-17 from the field and 1-for-8 from deep.
Three-point shooting remains a concern for Harper, who shot 33.3 from deep while attempting 5.2 triples per game in one season at Rutgers.
Even with that element of his game left to work on, the Spurs appear to have seen enough from Harper through two games to wait until training camp to see more.
Harper will get his next chance to play for the Spurs when the team opens the preseason on Wednesday, Oct. 8 against the Miami Heat in Florida.
The Spurs will meanwhile return to Summer League action on Thursday against the Charlotte Hornets. Both teams head into the contest with undefeated records in Las Vegas.
