Ethan Holliday, Eli Willits and Updated MLB Top 100 Prospect List After 2025 Draft

Joel ReuterJul 17, 2025

With the 2025 MLB draft complete, it's time for an updated version of our top 100 prospect list.

All told, 14 players who were selected in this year's draft immediately jumped onto our updated list, including prep shortstop Ethan Holliday (No. 4 to COL), prep right-hander Seth Hernandez (No. 6 to PIT) and LSU left-hander Kade Anderson (No. 3 to SEA) who all jumped straight into the top 25.

The following factors helped determine where each player fell in our rankings:

Potential: Potential trumps production a lot of the time, especially in the lower levels of the minors and with recent draft picks. Skill set and tools are often better indicators of what a player will become.

Talent: For prospects in the higher levels of the minors who are close to breaking into the big leagues, production and talent level were the determining factors since those players are viewed as more complete products.

Eligibility: A player must maintain rookie eligibility to be considered for inclusion. That means no more than 130 big league at-bats for position players, 50 innings for pitchers or 45 days on the active roster.

Let's start with the next 100 prospects who fell just outside the rankings.

94. 3B Brady House, WAS
93. LHP Cam Caminiti, ATL
92. RHP Tekoah Roby, STL
91. 2B Brice Matthews, HOU

-Injuries limited JR Ritchie to 77.1 innings over his first three professional seasons after he was selected No. 35 overall in the 2022 draft, but his stock has taken off this year with a clean bill of health. The 22-year-old has a 2.35 ERA, 0.95 WHIP and 79 strikeouts in 80.1 innings between High-A and Double-A, and he will make his Triple-A debut in his next outing.

-A three-year starter at shortstop for Wake Forest, Marek Houston was a glove-first player early in his college career, but he solidified his status as one of the best middle infielders in the nation this spring by hitting .354/.458/.597 with 15 home runs and 66 RBI in 61 games.

-A rash of injuries to the Astros has opened the door for Brice Matthews to get his first look in the big leagues, and he made his MLB debut on July 11. The 2023 first-round pick quickly emerged as the top prospect in a thin Houston farm system, and he looks like the heir to Jose Altuve at second base.

85. IF Luke Keaschall, MIN
84. OF Colby Thomas, ATH
83. SS Arjun Nimmala, TOR
82. C Eduardo Tait, PHI
81. 2B Christian Moore, LAA

-An on-base machine throughout his pro career with a .389 on-base percentage and 13.6 percent walk rate, Sal Stewart has started to tap into more of his raw power potential this year at Double-A. The 21-year-old is hitting .306/.377/.473 with 19 doubles, 10 home runs and 44 RBI in 80 games.

-Blake Mitchell suffered a fractured hamate bone in his right wrist in February, and after rehabbing in rookie ball, he is 3-for-21 with 11 strikeouts in five games at High-A Quad Cities. The 20-year-old logged a .793 OPS with 18 home runs and 26 steals last season after going No. 8 overall in the 2023 draft.

-A lot has been made of the Angels reaching for Tyler Bremner with the No. 2 overall pick, but he was one of the best pitchers in the nation this spring. A slow start caused his stock to slip a bit, but he finished strong with double-digit strikeouts in six of his final seven starts en route to a 3.49 ERA and 111 punchouts in 77.1 innings.

72. OF Chase DeLauter, CLE
71. RHP Kyson Witherspoon, BOS—2025 Draft Pick

-The D-backs appear to have crushed their 2024 draft haul, with Slade Caldwell (No. 29 overall) and Ryan Waldschmidt (No. 31 overall) both quickly emerging as top 100 prospects. Infielder JD Dix (No. 35 overall) and right-hander Daniel Eagen (No. 102 overall) have also found their way onto the organization's top 10 prospect list.

-A two-way player at Oklahoma State before going No. 19 overall in the 2024 draft, Carson Benge has turned his full focus to hitting in pro ball. The 22-year-old is hitting .302/.422/.485 with 32 extra-base hits and 17 steals in 73 games between High-A and Double-A.

-The gap between Kyson Witherspoon and the hyped trio of left-handed college starters drafted ahead of him (Kade Anderson, Liam Doyle and Jamie Arnold) could end up being non-existent. The No. 15 overall pick has an athletic 6'2" frame and an electric five-pitch arsenal, and he went 10-4 with a 2.65 ERA, 1.01 WHIP and 124 strikeouts in 95 innings this spring.

63. SS Alex Freeland, LAD
62. SS Billy Carlson, CWS—2025 Draft Pick
61. SS JoJo Parker, TOR—2025 Draft Pick

-One of the most hyped international prospects in recent memory, Ethan Salas signed for $5.6 million in 2023 and made his pro debut stateside as a 17-year-old, closing out the year at Double-A. However, he struggled to a .599 OPS in a full season at High-A last year, and a stress reaction in his back has limited him to 10 games in 2025.

-A candidate to go inside the top 10 picks, Trey Yesavage ended up slipping to the Blue Jays at No. 20 overall in the 2024 draft. The East Carolina product is enjoying a fantastic pro debut, posting a 3.19 ERA, 0.99 WHIP and 111 strikeouts in 67.2 innings across three levels.

-Billy Carlson (No. 10 overall) and JoJo Parker (No. 8 overall) were frequently linked to the same teams throughout the predraft process, and their side-by-side progress through the minors will be interesting to track in the coming years. Carlson was the best defensive shortstop in the draft class, while Parker has a 60-grade hit tool with a future shift to second base or third base likely on the horizon.

53. OF Mike Sirota, LAD
52. C Joe Mack, MIA
51. SS Jett Williams, NYM

-With no shortage of hype entering the season, George Lombard Jr. hit .329/.495/.488 in 24 games at High-A to earn a quick promotion to the Double-A level. The 20-year-old is batting just .203/.331/.302 with 13 extra-base hits in 245 plate appearances since moving up a level, but he is still miles ahead of the developmental curve.

-A legitimate candidate to go No. 1 overall in the 2025 draft earlier this spring, Jamie Arnold failed to take the next step forward many were expecting after a lights-out sophomore season. That said, he still finished 8-2 with a 2.98 ERA, 1.06 WHIP and 119 strikeouts in 84.2 innings, and he could easily end up being the best pitcher in the 2025 class.

-Mike Sirota entered his junior season at Northeastern with first-round buzz following a stellar sophomore season and strong run in the Cape Cod League, but an inconsistent spring caused him to slip to the third round. That looks like the steal of the 2024 draft, as he is hitting .333/.452/.616 with 16 doubles, 13 home runs and 54 RBI in 59 games between Single-A and High-A.

44. LHP Gage Jump, ATH
43. SS Aidan Miller, PHI
42. OF Jonny Farmelo, SEA
41. SS Carson Williams, TB

-The Marlins need impact bats, and they found one that should move quickly through the minors in Aiva Arquette with the No. 7 overall pick in the 2025 draft. The 6'5", 220-pound shortstop hit .354/.461/.654 with 17 doubles, 19 home runs and 66 RBI in 65 games this spring at Oregon State.

-The Mariners shelled out a $3.2 million above-slot bonus to sign Jonny Farmelo with the No. 29 overall pick in the 2023 draft, and he got off to a strong start in his pro debut before tearing his ACL last June. This year, it's a rib injury that has kept him on the sidelines, but he hit .288/.348/.610 in 66 plate appearances as one of the youngest players in the High-A Northwest League before hitting the injured list.

-Shortstop Carson Williams was B/R's No. 3 MLB prospect entering the 2025 season following a career year at the plate where he posted an .821 OPS with 20 doubles, 20 home runs and 33 steals in 115 games at Double-A. That production has not carried over to this season, and he is hitting .216 with a 34.4 percent strikeout rate at Triple-A, but he remains an elite defensive shortstop with major upside.

34. OF Theo Gillen, TB
33. OF Emmanuel Rodriguez, MIN
32. LHP Noah Schultz, CWS
31. 2B Travis Bazzana, CLE

-Despite slipping to No. 19 overall in the 2025 draft, Ike Irish still stands as the best hitter in this year's college crop following a stellar run through SEC play this spring when he hit c.364/.469/.710 with 13 home runs in 28 conference games. Will he get a chance to catch, or immediately shift to the outfield?

-A better-than-expected showing from the veteran catching tandem of Carson Kelly and Reese McGuire continues to stand in the way of Moises Ballesteros carving out a role in the majors. The 21-year-old is hitting .339/.397/.503 with 32 extra-base hits in 76 games at Triple-A.

-The Guardians have shown a knack for developing middle infield talent in recent years, and they have two good ones headlining the farm system right now in Travis Bazzana and Angel Genao. They are playing together up the middle for Double-A Akron and could push for the starting jobs in the big leagues in 2026.

23. SS Jordan Lawlar, ARI
22. LHP Kade Anderson, SEA—2025 Draft Pick
21. RHP Seth Hernandez, PIT—2025 Draft Pick

-The Phillies could acquire an outfielder at the trade deadline with offseason addition Max Kepler underperforming, but they could also look in-house and promote Justin Crawford. The 21-year-old is hitting .331/.407/.432 with 23 extra-base hits and 29 steals in 73 games at Triple-A, and he would give the club a more natural fit in center field than Brandon Marsh.

-Eli Willits might have been a surprise pick at No. 1 overall by the Nationals, but he is arguably the most well-rounded prospect in the 2025 draft class and would have heard his name called somewhere inside the top-five picks regardless. His status as the top pick will add some pressure to his pro debut, but he has a more polished game than most prep prospects.

-Based purely on upside, Seth Hernandez might have the highest ceiling of any prospect in the 2025 draft class. He brings a rare combination of projection, present stuff and polish to the mound, and he went 9-1 with a 0.39 ERA, 0.49 WHIP and a 105-to-7 strikeout-to-walk ratio in 53.1 innings this spring.

15. SS Colt Emerson, SEA
14. 1B Bryce Eldridge, SF
13. RHP Andrew Painter, PHI
12. SS Konnor Griffin, PIT
11. SS JJ Wetherholt, STL

-With 65-grade raw power and a strong, athletic 6'4", 210-pound frame, Ethan Holliday has the potential to develop into a 40-homer slugger. There are some questions about his hit tool, and he will likely outgrow shortstop and shift to third base, but his offensive ceiling is as high as any prospect in baseball. The MLB bloodlines make it easier to bank on him reaching his full potential.

-There are some high-ceiling youngsters in the lower levels of the system, but Bryce Eldridge remains the clear top prospect in the Giants system, and he should get his first taste of the majors later this summer. The 6'7", 240-pound slugger has an .811 OPS with 10 home runs in 52 games in the upper levels of the minors this year, and he won't turn 21 years old until October.

-It looked like the Cardinals got a steal when JJ Wetherholt slipped to them at No. 7 overall in the 2024 draft, and he is quickly backing up that assumption by hitting .303/.425/.487 with 25 extra-base hits and 14 steals in 65 games between Double-A and Triple-A. The 22-year-old could push for the starting second base job next spring.

1. OF Roman Anthony, BOS

-A .238/.338/.381 line might not jump off the page, but Sebastian Walcott will be 19 years old for the entire 2025 season, and those numbers represent a talented young player more than holding his own as one of the youngest prospects at the Double-A level.

-From signing for $950,000 in January 2024 to the No. 6 prospect in baseball, it's been a rapid ascent for Jesús Made to arrive as one of the top prospects in baseball. The 18-year-old jumped straight from the Dominican Summer League to Single-A for his stateside debut, and he has a .772 OPS with 24 extra-base hits and 38 steals in 71 games.

-With Roman Anthony and Jacob Misiorowski both playing in the majors and likely to exhaust their prospect eligibility shortly after the All-Star break, it's a matter of time before Kevin McGonigle is the new No. 1 prospect in baseball. The 20-year-old is hitting .345/.438/.591 with 28 extra-base hits and more walks (27) than strikeouts (20) in 201 plate appearances across three minor league levels.
