VJ Edgecombe Hyped as 'Incredible' by 76ers' Nick Nurse amid NBA Summer League 2025
Philadelphia 76ers head coach Nick Nurse is already a big fan of No. 3 overall pick VJ Edgecombe.
"Just a lot of everything," he said during an appearance on a live version of The Hoop Collective podcast (23:40 mark) when asked what the team was excited about regarding Edgecombe. "First of all, incredible athlete. Does things defensively. Like, he's good defensively, but he makes plays, shot-blocker, you don't see that a lot (shot-blocking) from the wing position. Tries really hard on D. Explosive. Looked like he's got some shimmy to get his own shot off. He's a full-court player, getting up and down in transition. And then he's an incredible person, he's really all about working really hard. Super respectful, and he's just great to be around."

Edgecombe popped during his first Summer League appearance, putting up 28 points and 10 rebounds in Salt Lake City. He hasn't played since due to a left thumb sprain, but expectations are already very high based on that lone showing.
He's expected to be part of what should be a talented backcourt, with Tyrese Maxey, Jared McCain and Quentin Grimes—assuming he eventually re-signs with the team—also expected to have major roles in the 2025-26 campaign. Veterans Kyle Lowry and Eric Gordon could see minutes as well.
The Sixers have enough veteran talent on hand that Edgecombe shouldn't be asked to carry too much of a load next season, barring another spate of injury issues. But he's clearly a vital part of the team's future.
