Saturday's Hot Takes:
Cooper Flagg Shines vs. Spurs
Despite the Mavericks’ loss to the Spurs on Saturday, Cooper Flagg showed up in a big way, putting up Rookie of the Year–level numbers with 31 points on 47.6 percent shooting and 33.3 percent from three, along with four rebounds.
After a rough debut where he shot just 5-of-21 for 10 points against the Los Angeles Lakers Lakers on Thursday, the No. 1 overall pick is quickly showing why he earned that top spot.
Flagg carried the Mavs’ Summer League squad—outscoring the next closest teammate, Miles Kelly, by 20 points—and kept them within seven despite the lopsided production. The performance has fans buzzing about his potential impact alongside Klay Thompson, Anthony Davis and D’Angelo Russell this season.
Sacramento’s Devin Carter Dominates Chicago
As Devin Carter’s name continues to swirl in trade rumors — particularly in a potential deal for Golden State’s Jonathan Kuminga — the Kings guard sent a clear message with a dominant Summer League performance Saturday.
The former No. 13 overall pick in 2024, who averaged just 3.8 points, 2.1 rebounds and 1.1 assists over 36 games last season, lit up the Bulls with 30 points in Sacramento’s 109-92 win. Carter added eight rebounds, three assists, one steal and one block, while shooting a blistering 76.9 percent from the field and 71.4 percent from deep.
It was a statement game for the 23-year-old, who’s been surrounded by uncertainty heading into his second NBA season.
Bronny James Shines in Matchup vs. Jeremiah Fears.
The Los Angeles Lakers and Bronny James defeated the New Orleans Pelicans 94-81 behind a strong all-around performance from James, with LeBron watching from the stands.
Bronny finished with 14 points on 45.5 percent shooting, along with three assists, two steals and one block — outshining the 2025 No. 7 overall pick Jeremiah Fears. While Fears scored 15 points, he struggled from the field, shooting just 23.8 percent and 1-of-7 from deep, while committing three turnovers.
James, now in his second year, looked poised and confident as he got the better of the first-rounder in Saturday’s Summer League matchup.
Hansen Yang Continues to Impress
Hansen Yang continues to turn heads in Las Vegas after another strong effort against the Grizzlies.
On Saturday, Yang poured in eight quick points in just 11 minutes to start the contest, capping it off with a powerful slam that fired up the crowd. Yang finished with 10 points, five rebounds, three assists and one block.
Yang's play after a strong debut on Friday, where he posted 10 points, four rebounds, five assists and three blocks — had fans raving about his performance:
Phoenix and Atlanta will kick off Sunday’s action as the 2025 Summer League continues, keeping the packed weekend going.
