Hot Takes on Lakers' Bronny James, RJ Davis vs. Pelicans' Derik Queen, Jeremiah Fears
Bronny James continued his campaign for a full-time spot on the Los Angeles Lakers roster during Saturday night Summer League action.
James recorded 14 points on 5-for-11 shooting from the field to help the Lakers claim an 94-81 win over Jeremiah Fears, Derik Queen and the New Orleans Pelicans in Las Vegas.
James finished the game having gone 1-for-5 from behind the arc, adding one rebound and three assists in 24 minutes on the court.
Some fans who watched James compete on Saturday night were left convinced he is ready to play alongside his father LeBron James next season in the NBA.
Queen, the No. 13 pick of the 2025 draft, recorded 12 points while shooting 4-for-12 from the field for the Pelicans.
The former Maryland standout also added 13 rebounds to record his second double-double in as many Summer League games.
Some fans believed Queen's early performances are a sign he'll succeed with the Pelicans, and potentially work his way into the rotation, with some improvement over the offseason.
Fears, who was selected just ahead of the Queen with the No. 7 pick of the draft, finished the game with 15 points on 5-for-21 shooting from the field.
He made one of his seven attempts from deep while contributing two rebounds and making three turnovers in 29 minutes on the court.
Despite Fears' shooting struggles early in the game, his composure later in Saturday night's action against the Lakers led some fans to predict his future success in the NBA.
James, Queen and Fears will get more chances to compete for regular-season roster spots as Summer League action continues next week in Las Vegas. The tournament wraps up with a championship game on July 20.
