Hot Takes on Mavs' Cooper Flagg vs. Spurs' Dylan Harper in NBA Summer League
Cooper Flagg and Dylan Harper were both ready to show what they are capable of on Saturday Afternoon.
Flagg scored 31 points and Harper poured in 16 as Harper's San Antonio Spurs claimed a 76-69 victory over Flagg's Dallas Mavericks in an NBA Summer League showdown in Las Vegas.
Despite his team being on the losing end, Flagg put on a clinic.
In addition to his 31 points, Flagg contributed four rebounds, an assist and a block in 31 minutes. He went 10-of-20 on field goals, 3-of-8 from three-point range and was 8-of-13 from the free-throw line.
Harper also contributed more than just points to the Spurs. He also added six rebounds, two assists, two steals and a block in 17 minutes. This was his first appearance in the Summer League.
Fans took to social media to hype up the players' performances and project a healthy rivalry between the No. 1 and No. 2 picks.
This is the only game that Harper and Flagg are scheduled to play against each other in the Summer League, but it will be a common matchup once their careers start in earnest.
Both the Mavericks and Spurs are in the Southwest Division, so regular-season clashes between Flagg and Harper will be frequent over the coming years. If Saturday's fireworks carry over to the regular season, the battle could become must-see television.
