Chris Paul Contract Reportedly Being Weighed by Clippers, Suns After Hornets Interest

Paul KasabianJul 12, 2025

The Los Angeles Clippers and Phoenix Suns both "continue to weigh the prospect of reuniting with veteran point guard Chris Paul," according to Marc Stein and Jake Fischer for the Stein Line newsletter.

The NBA insiders also reported that Paul "rebuffed an approach" from the Charlotte Hornets earlier in free agency.

Paul previously said in a conversation with Jemele Hill at the American Black Film Festival in Miami that he plans to play "at most, a year" at this juncture.

Paul has played 20 NBA seasons. He's a 12-time All-Star, 11-time All-NBA honoree and nine-time All-Defensive Team member who has earned a spot on the league's 75th Anniversary Team.

The 40-year-old played for the San Antonio Spurs last season, averaging 8.8 points on 42.7 percent shooting (37.7 percent from three), 7.4 assists, 3.6 rebounds and 1.3 steals per game. He started and played all 82 games, averaging 28.0 minutes per game.

Paul still has something left in the tank, and the interest around the league is clearly there for the future Hall of Famer. At this point, he has options to weigh, so we'll see what Paul decides soon enough as he approaches his 21st, and apparently last, season.
