Orioles Reportedly 'Close to Being Open for Business' Amid MLB Trade Deadline Rumors
The Baltimore Orioles are reportedly "close to being open for business with all available players," per league sources to SNY's Andy Martino.
Baltimore sits last in the American League East with a 41-50 record. The O's have bounced back a bit after a disastrous 16-34 start, which included the team parting ways with manager Brandon Hyde on May 17, but Baltimore is still 12 games behind the Toronto Blue Jays for first in the American League East and 6.5 games behind the Seattle Mariners for the final AL wild card spot. FanGraphs gives the Orioles a 3.7 percent chance to make the playoffs.
So it's understandable if the Orioles want to look past 2025 and build for a better future at this point.

The Orioles have already made one move this season signaling that notion, trading away setup man Bryan Baker, a right-handed pitcher, to the Tampa Bay Rays for a Competitive Balance Round A Draft pick (No. 37 overall). Baker was 3-2 with a 3.52 ERA over 42 appearances.
The latest farm system ranking from Bleacher Report's Joel Reuter lists Baltimore at No. 29 overall in the 30-team MLB. Only one Oriole minor leaguer (catcher/first baseman Samuel Basallo) is listed in the top 100 of MLB.com's prospect rankings.
It could ultimately make sense for the Orioles to simply add picks and prospects at this point with the 2025 team in such a rough spot right now. At the very least, that seems like where Baltimore is headed.
