Rockets Hype Kevin Durant's Arrival in Trade, Resurface Star's Old Social Media Post
It’s 2009. Kevin Durant has just wrapped up his second season in the NBA. He sends a tweet about heading to Houston.
The Houston Rockets recently found that old social media post and resurfaced it— now just as excited as a once-young Durant was after acquiring the 36-year-old in a blockbuster trade with the Phoenix Suns.
Durant has been a lot of places, to be fair — Seattle, Oklahoma City, Golden State, Brooklyn, Phoenix and now Houston. But it’s ironic that he once shared on social media how hyped he was to be there.
Durant was traded to Houston from Phoenix on July 6 in a historic seven-team deal, after it became clear that the trio of Devin Booker, Bradley Beal and Durant wasn’t working out in Phoenix as once hoped.
That group was once labeled a Big Three after the Suns acquired Beal ahead of the 2023 season, with expectations sky-high for the dominant backcourt. But the team lost in the first round that year and failed to make the playoffs the following season, sending the franchise in a new direction.
Now, the Rockets are signing some of the biggest names in the offseason. After a stellar 52-30 campaign last year, Houston has added Durant, Dorian Finney-Smith and Clint Capela—and looks poised to be a serious contender in the West.
