Paul George Says VJ Edgecombe Showed 'Flashes of Stardom' in NBA Summer League Debut
Philadelphia 76ers forward Paul George was hyping up No. 3 overall pick and new teammate VJ Edgecombe following the rookie's NBA Summer League debut over the weekend.
"VJ showed flashes of stardom," George said on his Podcast P with Paul George.
Edgecombe faced off against No. 5 pick Ace Bailey and the Utah Jazz in his Summer League debut and showcased star power in his eagerly anticipated jump from college to the NBA.
The rookie finished with 28 points, 10 rebounds, four assists and two blocks on 48.1 percent shooting from the field. Despite the performance, the Jazz secured a 93-89 win.
With a smooth mid-range jumper, some swagger and defensive tenacity, Edgecombe reminded George of another familiar face.
“Watching him was like watching a young Jimmy [Butler],” George said.
Edgecombe has not played in either of the 76ers’ two games since because of a thumb injury and will miss Thursday's game against the San Antonio Spurs.
