D'Angelo Russell Reveals Nico Harrison Call for Mavs Contract in NBA Free-Agency Video

Veteran guard D'Angelo Russell provided a behind-the-scenes look at the moment he agreed to sign with the Dallas Mavericks.

At the start of the 20-minute video posted to his YouTube channel, Russell spoke on the phone with Mavs general manager Nico Harrison, who expressed his excitement to be bringing him to Dallas.

"I can't believe I still got your number," Harrison told Russell. "I appreciate you, I'm so excited. You really fit what we're trying to do."

Russell responded confidently, indicating that he's motivated to prove his worth with the Mavs.

"Who you telling? I like me with a chip on my shoulder," Russell said.

"Man, I like you with a chip on your shoulder. I done seen it before," Harrison replied. "I'm here and I'm excited, bro. Let's get it. ... It's about to be a problem."

Russell split the 2024-25 season between the Los Angeles Lakers and Brooklyn Nets. He put up cumulative averages of 12.6 points, 2.8 rebounds and 5.1 assists. He shot 39.0 percent from the field and a career-worst 31.4 percent from three-point range.

Russell will have the chance to bounce back in Dallas as he holds down the fort while star point guard Kyrie Irving recovers from a torn ACL. He will be playing on a team filled with star power, led by power forward Anthony Davis and 2025 No. 1 pick Cooper Flagg.

The 29-year-old wasted no time getting acclimated to his new team, as he told Harrison before they got off the phone that he would set up a workout with Mavs veteran shooting guard Klay Thompson while they both were vacationing in Miami. A strong year for Russell could get Dallas back on the path toward title contention in 2025-26.
