Hot Takes on 76ers Johni Broome, More vs. Thunder with VJ Edgecombe Out Due to Injury
With VJ Edgecombe ruled out of Monday's Salt Lake City Summer League game with a thumb contusion, the Philadelphia 76ers' other 2025 NBA draft pick had an opportunity to make a bigger impression.
Second-round pick Johni Broome knocked down a pair of threes and hauled in four rebounds in a defeat to the Oklahoma City Thunder.
Broome's play on Monday garnered some strong reviews.
Broome was known more as a rim protector and inside scorer at Auburn, so the development of a three-point shot has come as a surprise in Summer League.
The Sixers received a 17-point performance out of Jalen Hood-Schifino in the defeat.
Hood-Schifino has a long way to go to make the Sixers' roster, but he did impress on Monday night.
Judah Mintz and Justin Edwards joined Hood-Schifino in double digits.
Edwards, who signed a new three-year contract this offseason, scored 11 points, but he was a -16 across 30 minutes.
The 76ers have one game left in the Salt Lake City Summer League on Tuesday versus the Memphis Grizzlies before they depart for Las Vegas for the NBA Summer League. Edgecombe's status for those games is to be determined.
