Knicks' Leon Rose Praises Mike Brown's 'Championship Pedigree' in HC Announcement
The New York Knicks' championship window is open, and they believe Mike Brown is the head coach who can lead them to a title.
In a statement announcing Brown as the team's new head coach, Knicks president Leon Rose praised Brown's "championship pedigree."
"After a thorough and extensive search process, we are pleased to announce Mike Brown as the head coach of the New York Knicks," Rose said. "Mike has coached on the biggest stages in our sport and brings championship pedigree to our organization. His experience leading the bench during the NBA Finals, winning four titles as an assistant coach, and his ability to grow and develop players will all help us as we aim to bring a championship to New York for our fans."
The Knicks hired Brown last week, giving him a reported $40 million contract.
Before landing in New York, Brown was the head coach of the Sacramento Kings, with whom he won a Coach of the Year award in 2022-23 after leading the team to the playoffs for the first time since 2006.
He's also previously served as the head coach of the Cleveland Cavaliers and the Los Angeles Lakers.
Though he's never won a title as a head coach, Brown has been a part of some of the NBA's greatest dynasties. He was an assistant under Gregg Popovich with the San Antonio Spurs from 2000 to 2003, winning a title in 2003.
He also served on Steve Kerr's staff with the Golden State Warriors from 2016 to 2022, helping the team win championships in 2017, 2018 and 2022.
Now, Brown will look to make the Knicks champions for the first time since 1973.
