Carlos Alcaraz Dominates Andrey Rublev

Day Seven: The Championships - Wimbledon 2025
Carlos Alcaraz

Carlos Alcaraz defeated Andrey Rublev, 6-7(5), 6-3, 6-4, 6-4, to continue his quest for a three-peat at the All England Club.

In the first set, Rublev broke first to take a 3-1 lead, but Alcaraz managed to break back games later, eventually sending it to a tiebreaker.

While Alcaraz had a 5-3 lead in the tiebreaker, the 14-seed won four consecutive points to take a one-set lead.

From there, Alcaraz controlled the rest of the match.

The Spaniard needed just 31 minutes to equalize the match, with just four unforced errors, while winning 20 of 23 points on serve.

Then, in the third set, Alcaraz saved all three break points while continuing to trouble Rublev with a relentless return game.

In the fourth set, Rublev struggled to establish a rhythm given Alcaraz's unpredictable shot-making and flawless court movement.

The five-time major champion has now won 22 consecutive matches, continuing to emerge as the favorite to defend his title.

His court movement and athleticism have always been top-tier, but it's his much-improved serve and rally discipline that have proved to be crucial this week. He's now hit 35 aces in his last three matches, including 22 against Rublev.

In the quarterfinal, the 22-year-old will face home favorite Cameron Norrie, who will look to pull off an improbable win.

Norrie possesses consistency and an improved serve, which may help him keep the match competitive.

However, he lacks the true firepower to pull off an upset of this caliber.

Taylor Fritz Moves On To Quarterfinal

Taylor Fritz

Taylor Fritz needed all of 41 minutes to defeat Jordan Thompson 6-1, 3-0, who had to retire due to injury.

The top-ranked American needed three-plus hours to emerge in his previous three matches but raced off to a dominant start against the Aussie, who was forced to retire due to a thigh injury in the middle of the second set.

Fritz needed just 22 minutes to win a clinical opening set, where he won 16 of 17 points on serve and hit 11 winners, compared to just two unforced errors.

In the second set, he broke Thompson in consecutive games before Thompson was forced to bow out.

In 41 minutes of play, Fritz won 23 of 24 points on serve and blasted 20 winners to just three unforced errors—continuing to shine with his trademark consistency.

On Tuesday, the fifth seed will face Karen Khachanov in the quarterfinal, seeking to reach his second-ever major semifinal.

Khachanov has won their previous two matchups, but they haven't played since 2020, and considering Fritz's current form, he is expected to enter as the favorite.

Cameron Norrie Escapes Five-Set Thriller To Set Up Duel With Carlos Alcaraz

Day Seven: The Championships - Wimbledon 2025
Cameron Norrie

Nicolas Jarry came so close to pulling off another improbable comeback.

But in the end, Cameron Norrie defeated the Chilean qualifier 6-3, 7-6 (4), 6-7 (7), 6-7 (5), 6-3 to reach the Wimbledon quarterfinal for the second time in his career.

The former Wimbledon semifinalist staved off a breakpoint in his opening service game before the pair continued to trade holds.

Norrie broke late in the first set before taking a one-set lead.

In the second set, Jarry was a force to be reckoned with as he won 22 of 25 points on first serve, along with 27 winners.

But the heavy-hitting Chilean continued to struggle against the Brit's trademark consistency and committed 17 unforced errors in a set that required a tiebreaker.

Norrie continued to overwhelm Jarry with his consistency and relentless defense, escaping unscathed to take a commanding two-set lead.

In the third set, both players held their serves, which led to another tiebreaker.

Norrie had a mini-break lead at 5-3 but double-faulted to give Jarry an opportunity.

The 29-year-old eventually had a match point at 6-5, but Jarry relied on his aggression and net play to escape unscathed and forced a fourth set.

Jarry went on to win the fourth set, forcing a decisive fifth set.

But Norrie quickly captured momentum in the final set, breaking Jarry's first service game before saving three break points to eventually pull off the win.

Jarry hit 46 aces, won 79 percent of points on his first serve, and hit 103 winners.

Very rarely does a player with those statistics lose.

But his aggression also proved to be his downfall. He committed 71 unforced errors, failing to keep up with Norrie's relentless consistency.

Aryna Sabalenka Escapes Another Tough Test

Day Seven: The Championships - Wimbledon 2025
Aryna Sabalenka

After narrowly escaping Emma Raducanu to reach the Round of 16, Aryna Sabalenka faced another tough match in Elise Mertens.

In the end, the three-time major champion did just enough to win 6-4, 7-6(4).

Sabalenka raced off to a hot start, breaking Mertens' second service game to take a commanding 3-1 lead.

While the Belgian managed to break back, Sabalenka continued to dictate pace with her baseline aggression, eventually breaking Mertens and winning the set.

Mertens came out in the second set playing much more consistently, breaking Sabalenka to take a 2-1 lead.

However, Sabalenka broke back games later, eventually paving the way to a thrilling tiebreaker, where she emerged victorious.

The 27-year-old made easy work of Mertens' second serve in victory, winning 15 of 26 points.

Furthermore, she played arguably her most consistent match, hitting 36 winners to just 18 unforced errors.

On Tuesday, Sabalenka will face 37-year-old Laura Siegemund in the quarterfinal.

While Siegemund has already defeated top-10 players such as Madison Keys, the prospects of pulling off another one seem slim against Sabalenka, whose skills are best suited for these conditions.

Amanda Anisimova Reaches First Major Quarterfinal Since 2022

Day Seven: The Championships - Wimbledon 2025
Amanda Anisimova

Amanda Anisimova defeated Linda Noskova 6-2, 5-7, 6-4 to reach her first major quarterfinal since 2022.

The 23-year-old American raced off for a quick start, needing just 36 minutes to win the opening set.

Her power proved to be crucial early, as she won 10 of 16 points on Noskova's second serve, breaking the Czech twice, while committing just nine unforced errors.

However, Noskova surged back to win the second set.

Then, she broke Anisimova early in the third set to take a commanding lead.

However, the 13-seed rallied late, breaking Noskova's serve in two of her final three service games to escape in just over two hours.

In the quarterfinal, Anisimova will face Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova, looking to reach her second career major semifinal.

While she will likely enter as the favorite, Pavlyuchenkova is an impressive baseline player and can trouble Anisimova with her similar aggression.
