Hot Takes on 76ers' VJ Edgecombe vs. Jazz's Ace Bailey, Walter Clayton Jr., Filipowski
VJ Edgecombe may have gotten the edge over Ace Bailey in a Saturday night Summer League matchup between top-five picks of the 2025 NBA draft.
Bailey, selected at No. 5 by the Utah Jazz, joined 2025 No. 18 pick Walter Clayton Jr. and 2024 second-round selection Kyle Filipowski in representing some of the Jazz's top young prospects.
But it was Edgecombe who stole the show for the Philadelphia 76ers by shooting 13-for-25 from the field for 28 points and 10 rebounds despite a 93-89 loss to the Jazz.
Edgecombe's play was enough to get Sixers fans drawing comparisons between the 19-year-old and NBA legends like Russell Westbrook, Dwyane Wade and Anthony Edwards.
Bailey meanwhile impressed fans early on with the potential he showed with his willingness to take frequent shots early in the game.
However, Bailey shot just 3-for-13 for eight points and seven rebounds, leaving some fans to compare him unfavorably to Edgecombe later in the game.
Filipowski shot 8-for-11 while recording 22 points, six rebounds and a block of his own. Clayton meanwhile shot 3-for-8 from the field for nine points, six assists, three rebounds and a block, leaving some fans to predict his future success in the NBA.
The Salt Lake City Summer League continues on Monday with a 5 p.m. ET matchup between the Sixers and the Oklahoma City Thunder, followed by a 7 p.m. ET game between the Jazz and the Memphis Grizzlies.
