LeBron James Responds to Photo Shared from Cavs Practice Facility amid NBA Rumors
A photo showing Los Angeles Lakers forward LeBron James at the Cleveland Cavaliers practice facility amid NBA trade rumors is much ado about nothing, per the King himself.
"I live here still and train every summer," James said on X.
The photo showed James with Denver Jones, the former Auburn point guard who got a summer league invite from the Cavs.
James has exercised his 2025-26 player option with the Lakers, but his representation, Klutch Sports CEO Rich Paul, offered this message to ESPN's Shams Charania afterward.
"LeBron wants to compete for a championship," Paul said. "He knows the Lakers are building for the future. He understands that, but he values a realistic chance of winning it all. We are very appreciative of the partnership that we've had for eight years with Jeanie [Buss] and Rob [Pelinka] and consider the Lakers as a critical part of his career.
"We understand the difficulty in winning now while preparing for the future. We do want to evaluate what's best for LeBron at this stage in his life and career. He wants to make every season he has left count, and the Lakers understand that, are supportive and want what's best for him."
Naturally, that opens the door for James to potentially ask for a trade. The Cleveland Cavaliers would be a logical option, because (a) James is from Northeast Ohio and still has a home there, (b) he's a franchise legend who played 11 NBA seasons in Cleveland and led the Cavs to the 2016 NBA championship and (c) the Cavs, on paper, might be the best team in a depleted Eastern Conference.
However, it takes two to tango. NBC Sports' Kurt Helin reported the Cavs are "are not that interested" in trading for James if he decides to leave Los Angeles.
NBA insider Chris Haynes has also reported that James hasn't issued a trade request.
Ultimately, the photo certainly doesn't seem to foreshadow an impending trade. For now, James is a Laker, but there certainly is at least a little question if that will be the case by the beginning of next season.
