Paul Pierce Calls Himself the 'Best Pure Scorer' in NBA History amid LeBron Comments
Former NBA star Paul Pierce made a bold declaration about himself on Thursday.
The Boston Celtics great said he was the "best pure scorer" to ever play in the NBA, responding to a comment from LeBron James calling Kevin Durant the "most equipped" scorer in NBA history.
"I was probably the best pure scorer ever in the history of the NBA," Pierce said on FS1's Speak. "I was pretty equipped when I think about it. I need to be in this conversation... I must have been one of the most equipped."
There's no denying that Pierce was one of the best scorers of his time. He averaged 19.7 points per game across 19 seasons, won a three-point contest and put up 25 or more points per game in five seasons.
But to say that Pierce is one of the best pure scorers the league has ever seen might be a bit of a stretch with players like Kobe Bryant, Michael Jordan, Durant and more arguably ahead of him.
Regardless, Pierce's resume speaks for itself, and fans can decide whether or not he's the best pure scorer in NBA history.
