Grizzlies Jaren Jackson Jr. To Be Re-Evaluated in 12 Weeks After Toe Injury Surgery

Paul KasabianJul 2, 2025

The Memphis Grizzlies announced Wednesday that forward/center Jaren Jackson Jr. will be re-evaluated in 12 weeks after undergoing surgery for a turf toe injury suffered while playing in a basketball run offsite. He is expected to make a full recovery.

Jackson, 25, posted 22.2 points, 5.6 rebounds and 1.5 blocks per game for Memphis last season.

He's under contract with the team through at least 2029 after the two sides agreed to a contract renegotiation and extension for five years and $240 million. There is also a player option for 2029-30.

Needless to say, Jackson is an integral part of this team. The six-year veteran and former Michigan State Spartan just made his first All-Star Game, and he's a defensive superstar who won Defensive Player of the Year in 2022-23 and made back-to-back All-Defensive First Team choices in 2021-22 and 2022-23.

The fourth overall pick in the 2018 NBA draft also paced the NBA in blocks in back-to-back seasons (2021-22 and 2022-23).

A 12-week re-evaluation time would be near the end of September, or roughly a month before the start of the 2025-26 regular season. Hopefully Jackson is good to go by that point, as he's a crucial member of this team whose presence on both ends has made the Grizzlies a playoff team more often than not in recent years.
