Paul KasabianJul 1, 2025

Memphis Grizzlies forward/center Jaren Jackson Jr. suffered a turf toe injury in his right foot while playing basketball and will undergo a procedure to address the issue, per a team press release. Thankfully, he is expected to make a full recovery.

Jackson and the Grizzlies agreed to a five-year, $240 million contract renegotiation and extension that runs through 2029, with a player option for 2029-30, per ESPN's Shams Charania on Monday.

Last season, the 25-year-old Jackson averaged 22.2 points, 5.6 rebounds and 1.5 blocks per game. He shot 48.8 percent from the field and 37.5 percent from three.

He's played six NBA seasons after the Grizzlies chose the former Michigan State Spartan with the fourth overall pick in the 2018 NBA draft. Other honors include leading the league in blocks in 2021-22 and 2022-23, resulting in back-to-back All-Defensive First Team choices. In addition, Jackson won Defensive Player of the Year in 2022-23.

This past season, Jackson made his first-ever All-Star team. He also landed on the All-Defensive Second Team.

Over his six-year career, Jackson has averaged 18.5 points, 5.6 rebounds and 1.9 blocks.

Bringing back Jackson is a huge move for the Grizzlies, and the focus is on him (and Ja Morant) even more with Desmond Bane (21.1 PPG over the past three seasons) traded to the Orlando Magic.
