Duncan Robinson Reportedly 'Trending Toward' Not Returning to Heat on New Contract
Free agent forward Duncan Robinson is "trending toward" not returning to the Miami Heat, per Anthony Chiang of the Miami Herald.
The 31-year-old Robinson averaged 11.0 points per game last season, shooting 43.7 percent from the field and 39.3 percent from three.
Robinson has played all seven of his NBA seasons with the Heat, who signed the 6'7" wing as an undrafted free agent out of Michigan (by way of Division III Williams College). He's a three-point marksman who averages 9.9 attempts from beyond the arc per game. For his career, Robinson has made 39.7 percent of his threes.
He's played key roles for the Heat in both of the team's Eastern Conference titles this decade (2020 and 2023). Of note, Robinson started all 21 of the Heat's playoff games in the 2020 postseason, averaging 11.7 PPG and hitting 39.7 percent of his threes.
He was a reserve en route to the 2023 NBA Finals but was quite efficient, scoring 9.0 PPG and making 44.2 percent of his threes. However, Robinson's presence here was crucial for the No. 8 seed Heat, as Tyler Herro suffered a broken right hand in Game 1 of the first round against the Milwaukee Bucks and missed the remainder of the postseason.
Robinson, who had played just six minutes in Game 1, helped fill that void with huge games during the playoff run. Of note, he had 20 points in Game 3 of the Bucks series and 22 points in Game 3 of the Eastern Conference Finals against the Boston Celtics. In both games, Robinson hit five threes.
That's obviously his calling card, one Miami has benefited from greatly over the years.
Now his time with the Heat looks like it's ending soon. He'll still be held in high regard in franchise lore, though, given his efforts for the team, especially as an undrafted underdog.
