Jakob Poeltl, Raptors Reportedly Agree to 4-Year, $104M Contract Extension amid NBA FA
The Toronto Raptors have secured a long-term commitment from Jakob Poeltl.
Per ESPN's Shams Charania, Poeltl has agreed to a four-year, $104 million extension that will keep him under contract through the 2029-30 season.
Poeltl could have become a free agent after the 2025-26 season, but Charania noted he will pick up his $19.5 million option for 2026-27 and add three new years on top of it.
Poeltl joins Scottie Barnes and Immanuel Quickley as Raptors players under contract for at least the next four seasons. Poeltl, Barnes, Quickley, RJ Barrett and Brandon Ingram are all making at least $25 million in average annual salary.
This is a very expensive core for a team coming off back-to-back losing seasons. The Raptors are in the midst of a significant leadership transition after a mutual parting of ways with team president and vice chairman Masai Ujiri.
Ujiri had worked in Toronto's front office since 2013 and he was the chief architect in building the 2018-19 NBA championship team, highlighted by executing the Kawhi Leonard trade with the San Antonio Spurs.
Even though the Raptors are still in the process of trying to build a playoff contender, Poeltl was not a player they seemed to have much interest in dangling in a trade. They reportedly refused to include him in any potential offers for Kevin Durant prior to the two-time NBA Finals MVP being dealt to the Phoenix Suns.
Poeltl has spent five years in Toronto after originally being drafted by the club with the ninth overall pick in 2016. He spent two seasons with the Raptors before being traded to the Spurs as part of the Leonard deal.
The Spurs sent Poeltl back to Toronto in February 2023 in a package for Khem Birch and three draft picks, including a first-rounder in 2024 that turned out to be the No. 8 overall selection.
Poeltl is coming off the most productive season of his career in 2024-25. The 29-year-old averaged 14.5 points, 9.6 rebounds and 2.8 assists per game in 57 appearances.
