Bucks' Depth Chart, Salary Cap After Damian Lillard Waived, Myles Turner Contract

Julia StumbaughJul 1, 2025

Myles Turner is leaving the Indiana Pacers to play alongside Giannis Antetokounmpo as the Damian Lillard era ends in Milwaukee.

The Milwaukee Bucks signed Turner to a four-year, $107 million deal in free agency, ESPN's Shams Charania reported Tuesday.

Turner's contract includes a player option for the 2028-29 season and a 15 percent trade kicker, per Charania.

The Bucks waived Damian Lillard amid his recovery from an Achilles injury and stretched the $113 million remaining on his contract in order to add Turner, Charania reported.

ESPN's Bobby Marks provided some insight on what that means for the Bucks' cap going forward. Lillard's contract cannot impact more than 15 percent of the Bucks' salary cap in each of the next five seasons, per Marks.

Here's a look at the Bucks' projected depth chart after acquiring Turner and waiving Lillard.

2025-26 Milwaukee Bucks depth chart

PG: Kevin Porter Jr., Ryan Rollins

SG: Gary Trent Jr., AJ Green

SG: Kyle Kuzma, Taurean Prince

PF: Giannis Antetokounmpo, Bobby Portis

C: Myles Turner, Jericho Sims

The trade for Turner came the day after former starting center Brook Lopez left to sign a two-year, $18 million contract with the Los Angeles Clippers in free agency.

Waiving Lillard meanwhile lowers the amount of the cap the Bucks had to set aside for a player who may not have been able to play until the 2026-27 campaign after suffering an Achilles injury during Milwaukee's first-round series against the Pacers.

Lillard was previously set to earn a guaranteed $54 million next season on the max extension he signed with the Portland Trail Blazers.

That deal is now set to count at just below $23.2 million against the 2025-26 salary cap, per Marks.

This move is the largest waived contract stretched in NBA history, according to Marks. That standard was previously set by the Charlotte Hornets when the team waived Nicolas Batum in 2020 in order to stretch out his $27 million contract over three seasons.

Deciding to stretch Lillard's contract left the Bucks with $20 million in cap space, CapSheet's Yossi Gozlan reported. The team will need to clear more space in order to sign Turner, per Gozlan.

The Bucks also need to fit in Monday's signings of Kevin Porter Jr. (two years, $11 million), Gary Trent Jr. (two years, $7.5 million) and Taurean Prince (two years, $7 million.)

Because teams are limited to using 15 percent of the cap for stretched money, stretching Lillard's contract will largely bar the Bucks from using the move again in the near future, as noted by Gozlan. Lillard's $22.5 million in annual stretched salary will take up 14.5 percent of the 2025-26 cap, per Goslan.

The ripple effects of Tuesday's roster moves could extend further in Milwaukee if either decision impacts Antetokounmpo's desire to stay with the franchise. NBA insider Chris Haynes reported on Tuesday that Antetokounmpo was "not pleased" with the Bucks' decision to waive Lillard.
