
Hawks' Updated Roster, Salary Cap After Reported Alexander-Walker, Kennard Contracts
The Atlanta Hawks' roster will look vastly different heading into the 2025-26 season.
The Hawks were busy on Monday, acquiring Nickeil Alexander-Walker in a sign-and-trade agreement with the Minnesota Timberwolves, according to ESPN's Shams Charania. Alexander-Walker received a four-year, $62 million contract while Atlanta sent a second-round pick and cash to Minnesota.
The Hawks also signed Luke Kennard to a one-year contract worth $11 million, per Charania.

Here's a look at the Hawks' roster following the additions of Alexander-Walker and Kennard:
- PG: Trae Young, Kobe Bufkin, Vit Krejci
- SG: Dyson Daniels, Nickeil Alexander-Walker, Daeqwon Plowden

Alexander-Walker's contract contains a player option as well as a trade kicker, per ESPN.
The 26-year-old is coming off an impressive 2024-25 campaign with the Timberwolves, averaging 9.4 points, 3.2 rebounds and 2.7 assists per game while shooting 43.8 percent from the field and 38.1 percent from behind the arc.
Alexander-Walker's perimeter defense was crucial for a Minnesota squad that owned the sixth-best defensive rating in the association (via NBA.com).
He also stepped up when given extended playing time. In 10 starts last season, Alexander-Walker averaged 12.2 points and 4.5 rebounds per game on 41.0/40.6/93.3 shooting splits.
Kennard is one of the league's best long-range shooters, owning a career 43.8 three-point percentage. He also connected on 43.3 percent of his triples during the 2024-25 season with the Memphis Grizzlies.
The former first-round pick averaged 8.9 points, 2.8 rebounds and 3.3 assists per game as a member of the Grizzlies last season.
Atlanta was already busy before the first day of free agency, acquiring Porziņģis from the Boston Celtics as part of a three-team trade on June 24.
The Hawks have made several major changes to their roster surrounding star point guard Trae Young, looking to rise up the Eastern Conference standings after missing the playoffs in each of the past two years.
