Ben Simmons Reportedly Looking for Contract Above Minimum in 2025 NBA Free Agency

Taylyn Hadley Jun 30, 2025

Ben Simmons is reportedly seeking a contract above the league minimum as he enters 2025 NBA free agency per The Athletic's Law Murray.

Simmons saw limited action for the Los Angeles Clippers after a midseason trade from the Brooklyn Nets, averaging just 8.4 minutes per game in the short playoff run while scoring a total of four points in five games.

With Simmons entering free agency and reportedly seeking a deal above the minimum, it's unlikely the Clippers will make a strong offer after he was nearly out of the rotation by season’s end. A move elsewhere appears likely, with the potential for a better opportunity and contract from another team.

"He's a free agent. He eventually faded out of the rotation completely for the Clippers. I don't expect him to be back," Murray said. "If he comes back it'd be on a very low number ... You need someone who's a threat on both sides of the ball."

Simmons has had a rocky past with a handful of teams due to injuries and holdouts.

He was sidelined in back-to-back seasons with season-ending back injuries in 2023 and 2024 while with the Nets, before being waived by the team ahead of last season’s trade deadline. He signed a rest-of-season contract with the Clippers on Feb. 10.

In 51 games between the two teams, Simmons averaged 5.0 points, 4.7 rebounds and 5.6 assists while shooting 52.0 percent from the field while averaging 22 minutes.

As he enters his seventh year in the league, a potential landing spot appears to be the Toronto Raptors, with SportsNet's Michael Grange linking the 6'10" point guard to the franchise.
