Celtics Reportedly 'Laughed' at Raptors' Derrick White Trade Offer After Tatum Injury
The Toronto Raptors reportedly made an offer for Derrick White before the NBA draft, but the Boston Celtics weren't biting.
"There were reports that the Raptors offered No. 9 for Derrick White," The Ringer's Zach Lowe said on his podcast (41:57 mark). "I'm told that's true, but it happened like a month-and-a-half ago, right after Jayson Tatum got hurt, and Boston laughed at that offer and said, 'We need way more than No. 9 for Derrick White.'"
While the Celtics have already been busy this summer, trading Jrue Holiday and Kristaps Porziņģis in cost-cutting moves aimed at getting below the second apron, it appears—at least for the moment—that the team will continue to build around the trio of Tatum, Jaylen Brown and White.
That could potentially change, of course, if a team blows them away with an offer for Brown or White. But it feels as though the Celtics will do a soft reset this season, with Tatum likely out for the duration due to a torn Achilles, before retooling ahead of the 2026-27 season around their star trio.
