Bojan Bogdanovic Retires from NBA After 10 Seasons, Last Played for Knicks in 2024
Bojan Bogdanović is calling it a career.
The NBA veteran announced Sunday he is retiring from the league after 10 seasons:
"Sometimes in life, you don't choose the moment," he wrote. "The moment chooses you. After 14 months of battling a foot injury, two surgeries, and countless efforts to get back on the court, the time has come to close a chapter."
Bogdanović first played in an NBA game during the 2014-15 campaign after previously playing professionally in Europe.
He bounced around during his career and suited up for the Brooklyn Nets, Washington Wizards, Indiana Pacers, Utah Jazz, Detroit Pistons and New York Knicks.
"Every stop left a mark," he wrote. "Every jersey carried its own weight."
Technically, he finished his NBA career with the same team he started with, as the Knicks traded him to the Nets ahead of the 2024-25 campaign as part of the deal that brought Mikal Bridges to Madison Square Garden. However, Bogdanović didn't play last season because of injury.
It was revealed in February he needed season-ending foot surgery.
At his best, Bogdanović was a dangerous wing scorer who could take advantage of the openings created by the defensive attention his star teammates drew with impressive outside shooting and an ability to attack the basket.
He averaged better than 20 points per game in two different seasons (2019-20 with the Jazz and 2022-23 with the Pistons) and posted double-digit scoring averages every year of his career except his rookie campaign.
In all, Bogdanović averaged 15.6 points and 3.6 rebounds per game while shooting 39.4 percent from deep during his NBA career.
He also played for the Croatian national team during the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro and averaged an impressive 24.8 points in five contests.
"Above all, I had the honor of wearing the Croatian crest on my chest," he wrote in his retirement announcement.
While he was never a franchise-altering superstar for the teams he played for, Bogdanović was a consistent contributor and offensive force throughout his career.
