Kevin Porter Jr., Bucks Reportedly Agree to 2-Year, $11M Contract, Updated Salary Cap
Kevin Porter Jr. will re-sign with the Milwaukee Bucks after previously declining his $2.5 million player option to become a free agent.
Porter's new deal will be worth $11 million over two years and features a player option for the 2026-27 campaign, according to ESPN's Shams Charania.
Here's also a look at the Bucks' cap space and payroll in 2025-26 and beyond, via Spotrac.
Milwaukee acquired Porter before the 2025 trade deadline from the Los Angeles Clippers. He averaged 11.7 points, 3.9 rebounds, 3.7 assists and 1.3 steals in 30 games (two starts), posting 19.9 minutes per contest.
Porter saw increased playing time in the first round of the Indiana Pacers and was called upon after Damian Lillard suffered a torn Achilles tendon in Game 4 of the first round of the NBA playoffs against the Indiana Pacers last April. He averaged 11.2 points, 5.4 assists and 3.6 rebounds in 30.2 minutes per game.
Assuredly, Porter could play a big role in Milwaukee next season, especially with Lillard's 2025-26 in doubt. He replaced Lillard in the lineup in Game 4 and played 33 minutes before closing out the first-round series with a 47-minute outing in Game 5, a 119-118 Pacers' win in overtime.
Porter first played for the Bucks but was traded to the Houston Rockets in 2020. He averaged 17.2 points, 6.0 assists, 4.7 rebounds and 1.2 steals from 2020-21 through 2022-23. Porter agreed to a four-year, $82.5 million extension in November 2022.
In Sept. 2023, Porter was arrested and charged in New York on suspicion of assaulting his girlfriend. He was held on charges of second-degree assault and strangulatio. Porter allegedly "assaulted her, struck her multiple times and choked her," the spokesperson said.
In Jan. 2024, Porter reached a plea deal and pled guilty to misdemeanor assault and a harassment violation, per Michael R. Sisak of the Associated Press.
The Rockets traded Porter to the Oklahoma City Thunder in October 2023. OKC then immediately cut Porter, who signed with Greek team PAOK for the remainder of the 2023-24 season.
Last July, Porter signed with the Clippers. He was then traded to the Bucks for MarJon Beauchamp last February.
