Mike Brown Reportedly 'Garnered Support' from Knicks Brass After Positive HC Interview

Andrew PetersJun 28, 2025

As the New York Knicks continue their search for their next head coach, one candidate reportedly did well for his standing during the interview process this week.

Per SNY's Ian Begley, former Sacramento Kings coach Mike Brown "has made a good impression during the interview process and garnered support." Begley also noted that James Borrego, Taylor Jenkins and Micah Nori have also interviewed for the job.

Though the Knicks made their rounds attempting to interview current head coaches, Brown quickly became a candidate once the team moved on to available coaches. According to James L. Edwards III of The Athletic, both Brown and Jenkins had "impressive" interviews with New York recently.

Brown was the Kings' head coach from 2022 to 2024, winning NBA Coach of the Year in 2023 when he led Sacramento to its first playoff appearance since 2006. The Kings fired Brown in December after a 13-18 start.

Jenkins coached the Memphis Grizzlies from 2019 until March. He led the team to three playoff appearances during his tenure and made it to the conference semifinals in 2022. The Grizzlies fired him shortly before the end of the regular season despite a decent 44-29 record up to that point.

Borrego, currently an assistant for the New Orleans Pelicans, has been involved in several coaching searches over the past few years and now finds himself in the midst of another. Borrego was the Charlotte Hornets' head coach from 2018 to 2022, but hasn't been a head coach since.

Nori is the lesser experienced candidate as he's never been an NBA head coach, but the 51-year-old has nearly two decades of experience as an assistant coach and is looking to make the jump into a head coaching position. He's been the lead assistant with the Minnesota Timberwolves over the past two years, helping the team reach the Western Conference Finals in back-to-back seasons.
