2025 NBA Draft Scouting Report for New Orleans Pelicans No. 40 Pick Micah Peavy
The New Orleans Pelicans have selected Micah Peavy with the No. 40 pick in the 2025 NBA draft.
Peavy earned first-team All-Big East honors in 2025 after a strong final season at Georgetown that highlighted his defensive value and improved offensive role. The 6'8" wing brings size, switchability and a willingness to do the little things that help teams win.
Peavy isn’t a self-creator or natural scorer, and at 23, he’s older than most prospects. Still, two-way wings with size are always in demand. If he sharpens his jumper and develops more three-and-D reliability, he could carve out a meaningful role in the NBA.
Peavy is ranked No. 58 on B/R NBA Draft expert Jonathan Wasserman’s 2025 Prospect Big Board.
College: Georgetown | Position: SF | Height: 6'6" | Weight: 212 | Age: 23 | Wingspan: 6'9" | PPG: 17.2 | RPG: 5.8 | APG: 3.6 | BPG: 0.5 | SPG: 2.3 | FG%: 48.1
Realistic Pro Comparison: Justin Jackson

Beyond their similar frames and wingspans, Peavy and Justin Jackson were both experienced college players who finished their respective careers with a breakout campaign from three-point range.
Jackson similarly profiled as a rangy and potentially switchy defender, though that didn't pan out all that well for him in the NBA.
For Peavy to avoid similar pitfalls, he'll have to fill out a bit and continue to hone the defensive instincts that helped him average 2.3 steals in 2024-25.
Strengths
2 of 3
Defense: At the college level, Peavy was able to switch all over opposing lineups and stay in front of just about anyone.
Shooting: This one may be a bit shaky. Over his first four years in college, he hit 26.7 percent of his threes. And even his 65.9 free-throw percentage in 2024-25 is a bit concerning. But this season at Georgetown, he took 4.1 threes per game and hit 40.0 percent of those attempts.
Feel: Peavy isn't the type of explosive athlete that many NBA wings are, but he makes up for that with craft on the ball and good timing with cuts and duck-ins off of it.
Weaknesses
3 of 3
Athleticism: Again, Peavy doesn't quite have the pop that many NBA wings do. To survive, that improved shot in 2024-25 will have to be a long-term development.
Touch: Prior to 2024-25, Peavy shot just 58.6 percent from the free-throw line, which is a major red flag for his touch and shooting prospects.
