Anthony Edwards Says He 'Got My Ass Whooped' by Thunder on Video After T-Wolves' Loss
Minnesota Timberwolves star Anthony Edwards had a succinct explanation for how he fared against the Oklahoma City Thunder in the Western Conference Finals.
"Season five over. Got my ass whooped," he said at the 1:17 mark in the final episode of the video series documenting his year. "KFC, UFC, USC, OKC in 5, man. … I ain't gonna make no excuses."
Not all players of Edwards' caliber would be as candid or gracious after having gotten three wins away from the NBA Finals and come up short.
In the immediate aftermath of Minnesota's Game 5 defeat, the three-time All-Star remained relatively upbeat, contrasting where he is in his career to teammate Mike Conley.
"I don't know why people would think it would hurt. It's exciting for me," he told reporters. "I'm 23. I get to do it a whole bunch of times. I'm hurt more so for Mike. I came up short for Mike. We tried last year, we couldn't get it. We tried again this year. We'll try again next year. But hurt is a terrible word to use. I'm good."
In terms of the conference finals, it's tough to argue with Edwards' evaluation. He was held to 35 combined points on 12-of-31 shooting, including 2-of-14 on threes, in the final two games.
The Thunder blanketed Minnesota's best player, and the Wolves didn't stand a chance of pulling off the upset.
It was a learning experience for both Edwards and head coach Chris Finch as they both try to discover a championship formula.
