Jonathan Kuminga Reportedly Eyed by Kings amid Heat, Warriors NBA Trade Rumors

Joseph ZuckerJun 26, 2025

The Sacramento Kings have Jonathan Kuminga on their radar as the Golden State Warriors forward approaches restricted free agency, according to The Athletic's Sam Amick.

Amick reported they "will be monitoring his market," though he added "it appears unlikely that Kuminga will ultimately come their way."

Anthony Slater of The Athletic and ESPN's Shams Charania reported Wednesday the Miami Heat could make a run at the 22-year-old.

Assuming they don't sign him first, the Warriors can match any offer sheet Kuminga signs with another team. When they have few other young building blocks to eventually help pivot in a new direction once Stephen Curry, Draymond Green and Jimmy Butler are gone, re-signing him makes a lot of sense.

Beyond the fact Kuminga's price tag could be very steep, he may not be all that keen on sticking around the Bay Area, however.

Slater wrote how he "has long held a dream of evolving into a star wing capable of driving an offense and leading a team." Occupying that kind of place within the Warriors roster right now is tough given their short-term priorities.

That opens the door for the Kings, Heat or somebody else to land a promising talent who has averaged 15.8 points over the past two seasons.

For Sacramento in particular, this kind of opportunity doesn't always present itself. The franchise has rarely been a draw for marquee free agents.

The Kings also need a new on-court direction after going 40-42 in a season that saw them trade 2022-23 All-Star De'Aaron Fox to the San Antonio Spurs in addition with firing head coach Mike Brown and general manager Monte McNair.

Amick reported the team is "open for business when it comes to discussing the various possibilities with their roster."

Kuminga carries some risk because there's a chance he never turns a corner. A team could be paying him for potential that never materializes.

From the Kings' perspective, it's at least worth it to explore the possibility and see what it would take to bring him to Sacramento.
