Mavericks Fans Chant 'Fire Nico' on Video Ahead of Cooper Flagg Pick in 2025 NBA Draft
Dallas Mavericks fans haven't forgiven president of basketball operations and general manager Nico Harrison for trading Luka Dončić.
During a Mavericks draft party at the American Airlines Center on Wednesday, ahead of the team selecting Duke's Cooper Flagg with the top overall pick, fans busted out a "Fire Nico" chant:
Mavericks fans have not been pleased with Harrison since the shocking decision to trade Dončić, which wasn't aided by the general manager acknowledging that he "did know that Luka was important to the fan base. I didn't quite know it to what level."
There was a whole flurry of reasoning and leaked reports in the aftermath aimed at justifying the decision, from Dončić's conditioning and pending massive extension to the desire for the Mavericks to create a more defensive identity (hence getting Anthony Davis in the trade).
But teams generally don't trade 26-year-old superstars in their prime, especially ones who led the team to the NBA Finals a season prior. And so Mavericks fans haven't forgotten, even on the night that the team presumably added its next franchise cornerstone in Flagg.
