The University of Washington men's basketball program is un-retiring Brandon Roy's No. 3 jersey in order to give it to his son.

Brandon Roy Jr. announced his commitment to the Huskies in a Monday social media post featuring himself wearing No. 3.

"In 2009 I watched my father’s jersey be retired at UW, not knowing one day I’d get to wear it," Roy wrote on social media. "Thank you Coach Sprinkle, staff and the University of Washington for giving me a chance."

Roy Sr. was a consensus All-American at Washington prior to his six-season NBA career. He became the second Huskies player to have his jersey retired in 2009.

Like his father, Roy attended Garfield High School in Seattle, Washington. He is listed by 247Sports at 6-foot-2 and 160 pounds.

He will now get the chance to work with Washington head coach Danny Sprinkle, who led the Huskies to a 13-19 record in his first year with the program.

That could be set to change next season. Former USC standouts Desmond Claude and Wesley Yates III headline an incoming transfer class ranked 13th in the nation by 247Sports as the Huskies look to make a push for the NCAA Tournament in the near future.

Roy will look to help the Huskies take a step toward a winning record as he follows in the footsteps of his father, who scored 1,477 points during his four-year career for the Huskies.

The elder Roy was carrying his son, who was then two years old, as he watched his jersey hoisted to the rafters ahead of a January 2009 game against USC.

Roy Sr. was named the Rookie of the Year with the Portland Trail Blazers in 2007 and earned All-Star nods in each of his next three injuries.

His professional career was ultimately cut short by knee injuries, which forced his retirement from the Blazers during the 2011-12 and limited his comeback season with the Minnesota Timberwolves to five games in 2012-13.
