Celtics, Hawks, Nets Updated Rosters, Salary Cap, Draft Picks After Porzingis Trade

Andrew PetersJun 24, 2025

Kristaps Porziņģis is on his way to the fifth different team of his career after being traded from the Boston Celtics on Tuesday.

The Celtics, looking to cut costs to get below the second apron, sent Porziņģis and a second-round pick to the Atlanta Hawks, per ESPN's Shams Charania. The trade also sent Terance Mann and the Hawks' No. 22 pick from Atlanta to the Brooklyn Nets, and Boston landed Georges Niang and a second-rounder.

Boston traded Jrue Holiday to the Portland Trail Blazers in return for Anfernee Simons on Tuesday, a move that put them $18 million over the second apron. Now, less than 24 hours later, the Celtics are completely out of the second apron.

ESPN's Bobby Marks noted that trading Holiday and Porziņģis saves Boston a projected $180 million in tax penalties.

Here's a look at the Celtics' updated roster:

Boston Celtics 2025-26 Roster

  • PG: Anfernee Simons, Payton Pritchard, JD Davidson
  • SG: Derrick White, Baylor Scheierman, Jaden Springer
  • SF: Jaylen Brown, Torrey Craig, Georges Niang
  • PF: Jayson Tatum, Sam Hauser, Jordan Walsh, Drew Peterson, Miles Norris
  • C: Al Horford, Luke Kornet, Neemias Queta, Xavier Tillman

The Hawks were $128 million over the salary cap, per Spotrac, though that number includes impending free agents. They were $18 million under the first apron and $30 million under the second apron before the trade, including cap holds from the 2024-25 season, so the addition of Porziņģis isn't too much of a burden financially.

Here's a look at Atlanta's updated roster:

Atlanta Hawks 2025-26 Roster

  • PG: Trae Young, Vit Krejci, Keaton Wallace
  • SG: Dyson Daniels, Garrison Matthews, Caris LeVert, Bogdan Bogdanović, Kobe Bufkin, Daeqwon Plowden
  • SF: Zaccharie Risacher, Jalen Johnson, De'Andre Hunter, Dominick Barlow, Jacob Toppin
  • PF: Mouhamed Gueye, Larry Nance Jr., David Roddy
  • C: Onyeka Okongwu, Clint Capela, Kristaps Porziņģis

The Nets were $42 million over the cap with $2 million in first apron space and $12 million in second apron space, per Spotrac, and they'll owe Mann $16 million next season.

Brooklyn will have pick Nos. 8, 19, 22, 26 and 27 in Wednesday's draft.

Here's a look at Brooklyn's updated roster:

Brooklyn Nets 2025-26 Roster

  • PG: D'Angelo Russell, Keon Johnson, Reece Beekman, Tyson Etienne
  • SG: Cam Thomas, Terance Mann, De'Anthony Melton, Tyrese Martin, Dariq Whitehead
  • SF: Ziaire Williams, Noah Clowney, Maxwell Lewis, Jalen Wilson
  • PF: Cameron Johnson, Trendon Watford, Tosan Evbuomwan
  • C: Nix Claxton, Day'Ron Sharpe, Drew Timme

The Hawks trade for Porziņģis in hopes that the big man can return to the best version of himself after a bit of a down year. While Porziņģis put up 19.5 points and 6.8 rebounds per game, he played just 42 contests while dealing with various injuries in ailments. He was a non-factor in the postseason, posting just 7.7 points and 4.6 rebounds per game in 11 appearances.

But much of Porziņģis' down year can be attributed to an illness that impacted him for nearly all of the second half of the season. He was still dealing with effects of that sickness in the postseason.

A healthy Porziņģis is more than capable of helping Atlanta compete for a spot in the postseason, and he'll look to shake off the 2024-25 season with a new start.

It's likely a tough blow for Boston to lose a mainstay of its championship team from a year ago, but the Celtics were in a bind financially and ultimately felt it was best to move on from Porziņģis to balance the books.

Mann had a promising start to his career, but plateaued rather quickly. Last season, he averaged just 7.7 points per game, playing 21.1 minutes per contest. He should play a bigger role for Brooklyn, however, and he'll look to make a leap in his seventh season.

More importantly for the Nets, they added yet another first-round pick to their arsenal, and it will be interesting to see how they approach things on draft night.
