Spurs Reportedly Want 'Ridiculous Haul' in Trade for No. 2 Draft Pick Amid Harper Buzz
While the San Antonio Spurs have long been expected to use the No. 2 pick in Wednesday's 2025 NBA draft on Rutgers star guard Dylan Harper, they reportedly haven't ruled out the possibility of trading the pick.
However, Kevin O'Connor of Yahoo Sports reported that while the Spurs are listening to offers, it won't be easy for another team to pry the pick away.
"They want a ridiculous haul," a front office executive told O'Connor. "Far more than I’d expect anyone to give up."

Every Team's Biggest Regret This Season 😞
San Antonio has the chance to add to its young core, which could be the best collection of youthful talent in the entire NBA. The last two Rookie of the Year winners, Victor Wembanyama and Stephon Castle, belong to the Spurs, and they also acquired star point guard De'Aaron Fox this past season. Adding Harper to the mix, as B/R's Jonathan Wasserman predicted in his latest mock draft, would surely benefit the team's long-term outlook.
"Harper is a big-bodied lefty combo guard who has a high floor with the skill, poise and playmaking instincts to dictate the game at his pace," O'Connor stated. "If [Cooper] Flagg had never reclassified, Harper would be the consensus top pick with star upside."
O'Connor pointed out that Harper "made only 36.8 percent of his catch-and-shoot 3s and just 28.7 percent of his dribble jumpers," which could hinder San Antonio's backcourt from thriving. Fox and Castle were described as "more interior-focused guards, too," which raises questions about Harper's fit with the team.
"How many shaky shooters can the Spurs really put around Victor Wembanyama? That’s the whole reason why San Antonio would even listen to offers," O'Connor stated.
Still, O'Connor made it clear that the Spurs "haven’t engaged in anything serious, leaving suitors thinking they’ll just take Harper, bank on his massive upside, and figure out team fit later."
