Rafael Devers Reportedly 'Seemed Elated' After Trade to Giants from Red Sox
After surprisingly being traded from the Boston Red Sox to the San Francisco Giants earlier this month, veteran slugger Rafael Devers is embracing his new home.
ESPN's Alden Gonzalez reported that despite the shocking way that the Red Sox shipped Devers away just hours after he hit a home run in a sweep-clinching win over the rival New York Yankees, the 28-year-old is happy to be with the Giants.
"People close to Devers described a man who seemed elated in the aftermath of his shocking trade to the Giants," Gonzalez stated. "All the drama that surrounded him in Boston, self-inflicted or otherwise, was suddenly behind him."

Gonzalez added that Devers "was all smiles" when he was welcomed to Oracle Park in San Francisco. He also showed a willingness to adjust to his new team, as he "began taking grounders at first base immediately, something he was unwilling to do in Boston." The longtime third baseman is expected to move across the diamond once he "begins to look comfortable" at first.
Devers is expected to breathe new life into a Giants lineup that ranks 25th in MLB with a .375 slugging percentage. He already showcased his power with a two-run home run in Saturday's 3-2 win over his former Red Sox team.
At 44-34, the Giants trail the Los Angeles Dodgers (48-31) by 3.5 games for first place in the NL West. San Francisco is hoping that the addition of Devers will help close the gap with the reigning World Series champions.
The Giants will be seeking their third straight win when they face the Miami Marlins (31-45) on Tuesday.
