NBA Execs Reportedly Expect Jalen Williams, Holmgren to Sign New Thunder Contracts
As the Oklahoma City Thunder look to clinch their first championship since relocating from Seattle with just one more win in the NBA Finals, the front office is also looking ahead to the summer when two of their best young players can sign contract extensions.
Per ESPN's Tim MacMahon, rival executives around the NBA anticipate Jalen Williams and Chet Holmgren will get new deals from the Thunder in the offseason.
This summer marks the first time Williams and Holmgren are eligible to extend off their rookie contracts. Both deals would seem like no-doubt moves, especially given how important they have been to this playoff run.

Williams, even before the postseason started, had earned an extension. The 24-year-old made his first All-Star team and a spot on the All-NBA third team this season, averaging 21.6 points, 5.3 rebounds and 5.1 assists per game in 69 starts.
The development of Williams into a high-level No. 2 scorer in the playoffs has the Thunder on the cusp of winning a championship. He became the 30th player in NBA history to score at least 40 points in a Finals game when he hit the mark in Game 5 against the Indiana Pacers.
Holmgren is still in the developmental phase of his career after missing all of the 2022-23 season due to a foot injury and 50 games this season primarily due to a pelvic injury.
Despite playing just 114 regular-season games over the past two seasons, Holmgren has shown his potential with 16.1 points, 7.9 rebounds and 2.3 blocks per game.
Per ESPN's Bobby Marks, Williams and Holmgren can sign for up to five years and $246 million. The value of those deals could increase to $296 million if they negotiate All-NBA, MVP or Defensive Player of the Year honors into them.
The Thunder also have a looming extension worth up to $380 million over five years for Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, but he can't sign that until after the 2025-26 season.
While the most important deal the Thunder made to put themselves in position to win the NBA Finals this season was acquiring Shai Gilgeous-Alexander from the Los Angeles Clippers as part of the Paul George trade, the 2022 draft is what pushed the franchise into the stratosphere.
Holmgren and Williams were both lottery picks by Oklahoma City. Holmgren was selected No. 2 overall. Williams was taken with the 12th pick that belonged to the Clippers and was part of the George trade package.
The Thunder have been the top seed in the Western Conference in each of the past two years. Their 68 wins during the 2024-25 regular season were tied for the fifth-most in a single season in NBA history.
