76ers Reportedly Still Trying to Trade Up for No. 2 NBA Draft Pick amid Bailey Rumors
The Philadelphia 76ers aren't giving up hope on moving up one spot in the 2025 NBA draft.
Per NBA insider Marc Stein, the Sixers are "still trying" to make a deal with the San Antonio Spurs for the No. 2 pick.
Philadelphia's efforts don't seem to be swaying the Spurs, who Stein noted continue to convey they intend to stay in their current spot with the expectation Dylan Harper will be their pick.
The 76ers have had their eye on San Antonio's pick for some time. HoopsHype's Michael Scotto reported last week they "engaged" the Spurs in trade talks, though he did add they have four prospects in mind if they stay at No. 3.
B/R's Jonathan Wasserman projected the Sixers to select Rutgers guard Ace Bailey in his most recent mock.
Bailey's pre-draft approach has drawn a bit of scrutiny recently. ESPN's Jonathan Givony noted on Tuesday that Bailey's camp told interested teams they believe he's a top-three player in this class and he "seeks a clear pathway to stardom" in the NBA.
The Rutgers star was expected to have a private workout with Philadelphia this week, but Givony and Shams Charania reported on Wednesday he canceled it. Their report does note the 76ers haven't ruled out taking Bailey despite the cancelation.
Baylor's VJ Edgecombe had a workout with the 76ers last week and made a strong impression on the team, per Fischer.
Cooper Flagg is regarded as the runaway top prospect in this year's draft. Harper appears to be the clear No. 2, which helps explain why the 76ers would be so enamored with trying to ensure they could select him.
Given how little interest it seems the Spurs have in moving off their spot, the 76ers might be forced to go with a player like Edgecombe or Bailey as they try to figure out a path forward coming off a disappointing 24-58 record this season.
