Bettor Loses $270K Long-Shot Parlay After Panthers Win Stanley Cup Title
Drew Hirschman's shot at more than $270,000 is officially no more after the Florida Panthers lifted the 2025 Stanley Cup.
Hirschman made a five-way parlay and picked the Thunder, Edmonton Oilers, Los Angeles Dodgers, New York Liberty and Philadelphia Eagles all to win titles. His $13 wager could have become more than $270,000.
The recent college graduate didn't cash out, though he hedged his bet by assuring himself of a smaller payout with the Panthers win against the Oilers:
Hirschman told the New York Post's Erich Richter his potential payday was down to "pure luck." It started when Saquon Barkley signed with the Eagles. As a New York Giants fan, Hirschman knew what Barkley brought to the table and picked Philly to go all the way. The bet grew from there.
As one might surmise based on the fact he's just out of college, the 24-year-old hasn't funded this venture on his own. His dad chipped in and helped contribute to the hedges, which total more than $50,000.
"I definitely emptied my bank accounts," Hirschman said to Richter. "I'm very lucky to have a good support system. My dad is an actuary, he's a math guy, he knows what he's doing here. We put together (a plan) that) we thought is secure that will give us a good outcome. He's definitely been very helpful with the funds here as well. I'm not going to sit here and pretend I have over $50 grand to splash."
The Thunder are a pretty safe pick at this point. They're up 3-2 on the Indiana Pacers in the Finals, and Pacers star Tyrese Haliburton is battling a calf injury. Oklahoma City should be able to close that out.
It was a much different story for the Oilers, who were eliminated on Tuesday night.
