Rookie WRs Who Will Outplay Their Draft Value 📈
Garrett reset the market when he signed an extension with Cleveland worth $40 million annually. He's the highest-paid defensive player in the NFL.
Sooner or later, somebody will surpass his earnings, and Parsons may be the one to make it happen.
Calvin Watkins of the Dallas Morning News reported in March the Cowboys standout is aiming to get $200 million overall and around $40.3 million per year. That's not an unfair ask given both his production (52.5 sacks in four seasons) and the rising salary cap.
The two sides still don't have an agreement in place, with Parsons telling reporters last week he "can't rush the process." He's willing to be patient and wait for Dallas to make its best offer.
For some context, teammates CeeDee Lamb and Dak Prescott didn't get their extensions until August and September respectively last year.
Garrett won't be a free agent until 2031, so he won't benefit right away if Parsons secures a deal eclipsing $40 million on average. Others around the NFL have a more vested interest.
The Pittsburgh Steelers' T.J. Watt is also in the last year of his contract, so he and his reps are probably following the negotiations between Dallas and Parsons very closely. Watt presumably agrees with Garrett that the four-time Pro Bowler warrants a record-setting payout.
