Kevin Durant Trade Reportedly May Happen Within 1 Week amid Heat, Rockets, Wolves Buzz

Kevin Durant's days as a member of the Phoenix Suns reportedly may be days away from coming to a close.

During an appearance Friday on the Pat McAfee Show, ESPN's Shams Charania said a Durant trade could occur even sooner than a week from now, potentially within the next few days:

Charania also said the Suns have primarily been focused on trade discussions with the Houston Rockets, Miami Heat and Minnesota Timberwolves over the past day or two.

Charania's report followed NBA insider Jake Fischer reporting Thursday that there is an "increasingly strong belief" within the league that Durant could be traded before the NBA draft commences on June 25.

KD has been the subject of trade rumors since the NBA trade deadline in February. Charania reported that the Suns had discussions involving Durant at the deadline, and NBA teams have expected him to get moved this offseason as a result.

Charania added that the Rockets, Heat, Timberwolves, New York Knicks and San Antonio Spurs have expressed interest in Durant, along with "several wild-card suitors."

Durant's business partner, Rich Kleiman, has met with the Suns on numerous occasions, and they have been "sifting through trade scenarios," which suggests KD may have at least some say in where he lands.

The 36-year-old Durant is eighth on the NBA's all-time scoring list with 30,571 career points, and he boasts several other impressive accolades as well, including being a 15-time All-Star, four-time scoring champion, two-time NBA champion, two-time NBA Finals MVP and one-time NBA MVP.

Durant has not been in the championship mix since his time with the Golden State Warriors, but he is still among the most productive players in the league.

In 62 games this season, KD averaged 26.6 points, 6.0 rebounds, 4.2 assists, 2.6 three-pointers made and 1.2 blocks, while also shooting 52.7 percent from the field and 43.0 percent from beyond the arc.

Durant's production didn't lead to much overall team success, as the Suns went 36-46 and missed the playoffs for the first time since the 2019-20 campaign.

Phoenix acquired Durant in a trade with the Brooklyn Nets during the 2022-23 season in hopes of getting the team over the hump after it lost in the 2021 NBA Finals.

However, postseason success never really came during Durant's tenure, as the Suns were knocked out in the second round of the playoffs in 2023 and the first round in 2024.

Given his status as an all-time great and a player who is still among the best in the league offensively, Durant figures to generate a ton of interest in the coming days.

The biggest question relates to Durant's contract, which is set to expire at the end of next season. If a team can sign Durant to an extension as part of a trade, it could increase the return Phoenix is able to get for him.
