Los Angeles Lakers star Luka Dončić's preparations for the 2025-26 NBA season appear to already be underway.

On Tuesday, Dončić took to social media to post a video of himself working out on his Instagram Stories:

The 26-year-old guard is coming off a tumultuous season, as he was shockingly traded from the Lakers to the Dallas Mavericks in February in one of the most unexpected moves in recent NBA history.

After Dončić was traded to L.A. for a package headlined by Anthony Davis and a first-round pick, rumors emerged regarding why Dallas parted with its franchise player.

Per Sam Amick of The Athletic, the Mavericks had reservations about Dončić and his commitment to being in good physical condition with some in the organization believing he was "lazy."

Amick added that Dončić's weight was a "frequent frustration" in Dallas, as were his beer-drinking and hookah-smoking habits.

Those factors reportedly contributed to the Mavs trading a five-time All-Star, who finished third in the NBA MVP voting and led them to an NBA Finals berth just last season.

Dončić didn't miss a beat upon arriving in L.A., averaging 28.2 points, 8.1 rebounds, 7.5 assists, 3.6 three-pointers made and 1.6 steals per contest in 28 games for the Lakers.

With Dončić and LeBron James leading the way, the Lakers finished as the No. 3 seed in the Western Conference with a 50-32 record, although they fell to the Minnesota Timberwolves in the first round of the playoffs.

It was far from an ideal result, but if the Lakers can put a couple of more solid pieces around Dončić, James and Austin Reaves, they should be among the top contenders in the West once again next season.

If Dončić is in great shape and has added motivation on top of it, the Lakers may even prove to be the team to beat.
