Jim Irsay's Daughters to Take Over Colts Ownership After His Death

Doric SamJun 9, 2025

After the death of longtime Indianapolis Colts owner Jim Irsay, the team is staying in the family.

Per NFL Network's Ian Rapoport, the Colts announced on Monday that Irsay's daughters Carlie Irsay-Gordon, Casey Foyt and Kalen Jackson will take over the ownership of the team. Irsay-Gordon will become owner and CEO, while Rapoport added that Foyt will also serve as executive vice president and Jackson will be Chief Brand Officer and President of the Indianapolis Colts Foundation.

Keeping the Colts in the Irsay family fulfills the goal of the late patriarch. According to The Athletic's Zak Keefer, Jim Irsay "thought about this a lot and planned for it," and he wanted all three of his daughters to have an "equal share in ownership." Keefer also pointed out that Irsay-Gordon has been "heavily involved" with the Colts as a team executive for "several years," so it "was expected she [would take] the helm."

Jim Irsay died on May 21 at the age of 65. He had owned the Colts since 1997 and guided the franchise to two Super Bowl appearances, winning the Lombardi Trophy in Super Bowl XLI after the 2006 season.

"We were deeply saddened to learn of Jim Irsay's passing today. Jim was a friend, and a man deeply committed to his family, the game, the Colts, and the Indianapolis community," NFL commissioner Roger Goodell said in a statement, per ESPN's Stephen Holder. "He led with integrity, passion and care for the Colts' players, coaches and staff, and his courageous work in support of mental health will be a lasting legacy."

The Colts are hoping to earn their first trip to the playoffs since 2020 this season. They've gone 17-17 in two years under head coach Shane Steichen.
