Cooper Flagg Reportedly Schedules Private Mavericks Visit Ahead of 2025 NBA Draft

Andrew PetersJun 8, 2025

The presumed No. 1 overall pick in the NBA draft is reportedly set to meet with the team most likely to select him later this month.

Per ESPN's Shams Charania, Duke's Cooper Flagg has a private visit with the Dallas Mavericks, owners of the No. 1 overall pick, scheduled for June 17, one week ahead of the NBA draft.

Flagg enters the NBA draft with the kind of hype that only players like LeBron James and Victor Wembanyama have seen. The former No. 1 player in the Class of 2024 lived up to the high expectations set for him at Duke, averaging 19.2 points, 7.5 rebounds and 4.2 assists per game on his way to being named the Naismith Men's College Player of the Year.

Flagg gave every indication that he's ready to compete at the professional level and was widely projected as the No. 1 overall pick well before he declared for the draft. Bleacher Report's Jonathan Wasserman has the Mavs selecting Flagg with the top pick.

Unless Flagg's meeting with the Mavericks goes poorly later this month, it seems he'll be heading to Dallas this summer.

The Mavericks' 2024-25 season will be remembered less for what happened on the court and more for what happened off of it. The team traded Luka Dončić to the Los Angeles Lakers in return for Anthony Davis, completely altering the future of the organization.

After the trade, injuries derailed the season and Dallas missed the playoffs just a year after making the Finals. The future seemed bleak for the Mavericks, but landing the top pick could change everything.

If Flagg turns into the player many think he can be, Dallas could be back to competing for championships in no time.
