Jalen Ramsey Reportedly Won't Attend Dolphins' Mandatory Minicamp amid Trade Rumors

Andrew PetersJun 8, 2025

The Miami Dolphins and Jalen Ramsey agreed to explore a trade this offseason, and the cornerback isn't going to practice with the team in the meantime.

Per NFL Network's Ian Rapoport, Ramsey isn't planning to attend the Dolphins' mandatory minicamp this week as he and the team continue searching for a trade suitor.

Though Ramsey, 30, is still a solid defender, the Dolphins have seemingly had a hard time finding a trade they like. Last month, Cameron Wolfe of NFL Network reported that "nothing is imminent" as far as a trade for Ramsey, but said he was told to "keep an eye on" June 1.

Before June 1, trading Ramsey would have cost the Dolphins $8.5 million, but it will now save them $10 million. The June 1 deadline has passed, though, and Ramsey is still in Miami with seemingly no new developments on the trade front.

While Ramsey is no longer putting up All-Pro numbers, he still had 60 tackles, two interceptions and 11 passes defended a season ago. But even though he's thrived as a cornerback, a trade could see him change positions.

Albert Breer of SI.com reported earlier this week that "the more people I talk to, the more I think Ramsey's value now really is as a safety." One NFC executive agreed that Ramsey could find more success as a safety.

"I think that's a safe landing spot to put him in position to still do things that he does well," the NFC executive said. "So that's like a $10 million to $12 million player."

But the issue with Ramsey changing from a cornerback to a safety would be that he would still be earning top cornerback money at $21.1 million in 2025. A team might be willing to trade for Ramsey and move him to the safety spot, but they'd likely want the Dolphins to eat some of his salary.

At this point, Ramsey's future in Miami seems to be nearing an end, and taking on some of his salary could be the best decision for the Dolphins as they try to yield some kind of return for him in a trade.
