How Much NFL Teams Can Save with Kirk Cousins, Tyreek Hill, Ramsey Trades amid Rumors

Andrew PetersJun 2, 2025

June 1 is a key date in the NFL offseason as it marks the point in which teams' cap penalties decrease significantly if they decide to trade a player.

Now that June 1 has passed, a handful of teams have the chance to make some moves that would save them a lot of money. ESPN's Jeremy Fowler broke down some of those moves on SportsCenter.

The Atlanta Falcons could be the biggest savers if they can find a trade for quarterback Kirk Cousins. The team only would have saved $2.5 million had it traded Cousins before June 1, but they can now save $27.5 million by dealing him elsewhere.

If Atlanta can't find a trade and instead just wants to cut Cousins, that will only cost them $10 million now instead of the $35 million it would have cost before June 1.

However, Fowler noted that Cousins is due $27.5 million in guaranteed money, and it might be tough for the Falcons to find a trade partner willing to take on that much. They would likely have to take on some of that money themselves if they trade the veteran.

The Miami Dolphins and Tyreek Hill have seemingly made amends after a dispute earlier this offseason, and a trade seems less likely, but if they do want to part ways with the wide receiver, they can now save $14.9 million, while also dumping his $18.5 million roster bonus if they trade him.

Another player who seems much more likely to be traded is Jalen Ramsey. Had the Dolphins traded the cornerback before June 1, it would have cost them $8.5 million, but they can now save $10 million by parting ways with him, Fowler noted.

The Philadelphia Eagles are nearing a deal to trade Bryce Huff to the San Francisco 49ers, and Fowler reported that the move will save Philadelphia $7.7 million once it's complete.
