LeBron Hopes Coaches 'Say What The F--k You Need to Say' to Sons Bronny, Bryce James

Los Angeles Lakers star LeBron James doesn't want sons Bronny and Bryce to get preferential treatment from coaches because of his sizable profile in the sport.

During the newest episode of Mind the Game, co-host Steve Nash reflected on his belief the commercialization of youth basketball and the college game has led coaches to be more deferential toward players. There's so much money at stake that coaches don't want to alienate one of their big stars.

James chimed in at the 14:17 mark to say he's "never got involved with my kids' coaches."

"From Bronny growing up to where he is now and Bryce on his way to Tucson to Arizona, I've never got involved," LeBron said. "I've never went to a practice and sat through practice the whole time to see how my son was being utilized. I never got on the phone with the coaches.

"Listen, he's there to coach my son, coach him however you want to. And I think you need to hold him accountable. I hope you hold him more accountable than any other kid here, and say what the f--k you need to say, no matter how it's being said."

Bronny is a member of the Lakers, while Bryce is a 3-star recruit in 2025 who signed on to play at Arizona. LeBron thinks his relatively hands-off role aided in their development and played a small role in getting them to where they are.

There's no question being the son of LeBron James bestows some privileges.

Before the Lakers even selected him in the NBA draft, Bronny and his representatives had to combat the narrative he'd wind up in L.A. because his dad was already there. In the case of Bryce, he has gotten far more publicity than a typical recruit of his caliber.

Still, it doesn't sound like they got to enjoy many advantages on the court because of their family name.
